Our Swindon Jaywingers love nothing more than giving something back, and this proved no exception as a team of dedicated fundraisers staged their very own World Cup football tournament recently in aid of local charity Brighter Futures.

Aiming to smash their annual fundraising target of £2,000, 28 players took to the field at Peatmoor’s local Primary School as Brazil, Belgium, England and France battled through the group stages. In keeping with this summer’s memorable tournament, the final went to a penalty shoot-out to raucous celebration as France, captained by Jon Dixon, took the trophy, with the Jaywing team spirit alive and well - even in the searing heat!

Part of several fundraising initiatives, the Contact Centre team has already raised £1,400 this year which, through Brighter Futures, will support Swindon’s Radiotherapy and Special Care Baby Unit appeals. We’ll reveal the final amount raised for these very worthy causes later in the year.

Special mention must go to Alex White who conceived and organised the event, and in particular to Charlie Cook, Dale Clifton and Laura O’Sullivan who all pitched in to help with refreshments, organising equipment, sponsorship and much more. Huge thanks also to Peatmoor Primary School, who provided access to their facilities at the weekend.

Giving something back is a theme close to our hearts. In another local community initiative, a team of 12 Jaywingers also spent a day volunteering at local infant and primary school Oliver Tomkins, to help move classrooms ahead of the new term in September. A team of 12 volunteers from all across all areas of Jaywing spent the day moving furniture, books and toys, and we’ll continue to engage in this way with local schools and charities throughout the year.
